LAHMS is the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and allies organization at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Dental Medicine. LAHMS seeks to increase visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people; to provide a forum to discuss issues particular to being an LGBTQ-identifying healthcare practitioner; to foster awareness of the needs and concerns of LGBTQ patients; to ensure sensitivity in the HMS/HSDM curriculum and inclusion of queer health topics; and to develop a welcoming and supportive community among students, faculty, and staff.
LAHMS includes members from Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM). We sponsor films, speakers, workshops, and social events.
We also work with LGBTQ organizations at non-HMS Harvard schools/departments, HMS hospital affiliates (Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Cambridge Health Alliance), and other medical institutions in the Boston area, like Fenway Health. LAHMS is housed under the Office of Recruitment and Multicultural Affairs (ORMA) at HMS.
