3.29.2017- Tackling Disparities in Healthcare for Transgender Patients

This panel discussion co-hosted by Brigham Health LGBT & Allies ERG and BWHC LGBT Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) will feature Brigham providers who have demonstrated a competency for providing transgender patient and a willingness to share their insights and broaden the knowledge base for both patients and staff. This panel will also include patient perspectives with the goal of creating a dynamic learning opportunity for all.

11.24.2015 - Transhealth Lunch talk by Dr. Cavanaugh

Dr. Tim Cavanaugh has been the Medical Director for the Transgender Health Program at Fenway Health since November 2012. Prior to joining the team at Fenway Health, Dr. Cavanaugh that worked 18 years as medical director and staff physician at Family Health Services/Comprehensive Community Action Program in Cranston, Rhode Island where we began formal outreach to transgender patients in coordination with the local transgender support organization. He has been working with transgender patients for seven years. Dr. Cavanaugh attended Dartmouth Medical School, and completed his Family Practice Residency at the University of Virginia Hospital.

 05.06.2014 HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Lunch Talk

Speaker: Kenneth Mayer, MD

This lunch talk is scheduled in conjunction with the HIV/Virology block of IMP.  HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis is a novel and contentious form of HIV prevention in which antivirals are provided to patients, who might be at risk for HIV contraction.  Dr. Mayer will highlight the most recent research around the biology and social implications of HIV-PrEP.

As we progress in our careers, LGBT families will continue to grow in visibility. Liz Coolidge’s talk will better equip us to provide the best care possible for LGBT patients interested in growing their families.  Liz will be discussing family planning and fertility options available to LGBT patients including adoption and artificial insemination.  She will also be discussing the history and legal implications of the work that has been done around infertility at the Fenway.  Liz’s talk will also be relevant to non-LGBT families, who are interested in the breadth of family planning options.
