For the past seven months, a psychiatry resident has been tweeting under the pseudonym K.C. Ardem. Part magical gifs, part real talk about life in academic medicine, they published a first-person account on KevinMD on May 8, 2020: “A physician’s experience of bigotry in medicine.”
“In college, I learned that I am so much more than African-American and gay. I’m a scientist, a dreamer, and an academic. At a liberal university, I briefly lived in a world where I could be myself—a world where, for a brief time, I was safe. But when I got to medicine, I learned that wasn’t true anymore. Being African-American and gay has been a lethal combination.”
Join us to kick-off Pride Month for conversation between K.C. Ardem and Jessica Halem on Zoom.
